Carlisle II Ferry

Built in 1917, the wooden Carlisle II is the oldest of only two operational examples of a Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet vessel (the other being the 1922 Virginia V steamship). The Mosquito Fleet was a large fleet of small passenger and freight-carrying ships that linked the islands and ports of Puget Sound during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, before the State of Washington began operations of their own ferry system. Today, the Carlisle II is still an active foot ferry owned and operated by Kitsap Transit, shuttling passengers between Bremerton and Port Orchard.
